A Luxurious Getaway – MONTE CARLO, Monaco

This tiny country on the French – Mediterranean coastline, famously reputed to be one of the most luxurious tourist destinations is home to more millionaires than any other place on earth. With that comes many off-beat and luxurious experiences accessible to tourists i.e. if you are willing to splurge some green on the idea of exploring the country like the wealthy and care free Monegasques do.

The Luxurious lifestyle aside, other more persuading reasons include; delectable French cuisine, year round remarkable Mediterranean weather, stunning ports, surreal ocean views, opulent hotels boasting of world class architecture and among the best in the world amenities.

Read on for some ‘Luxurious exploits’ that one can indulge in when visiting the swanky state of Monaco.

  1. Gamble the night away at Monte Carlo Casino

Casino de Monte Carlo is a one exquisite piece of architecture in the town center of Monte Carlo next to which, is the ritzy Hotel de Paris, Café de Paris and a Luxury shopping avenue with the likes of Dolce and Gabana, Van Cleef and Arpels to Ladureé gleam on either side of Casino Square. The architecturally inspiring palace itself includes well known heritage ballet theater (Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo), opera house (Grand Théâtre de Monte Carlo) and of course the legendary Casino.
I went on an English tour to the Casino as a luxury student where they told us about it’s intriguing heritage and the Royals who live in the palace. The extravagant Casino has a decent number of slot machines and tables to gamble at while sipping on round the clock flowing beverages and enjoying the breathtaking view of the Rivera. Also, this is one of a kind Casino that literally has clocks on it’s walls for the gamblers.

  1. Experience Grand Prix on Circuit de Monaco

It is one thing viewing the Grand Prix on your television and another enjoying all the hype, live in Monaco. Around the Grand Prix season Monaco gets bustling, the famous street circuit (Circuit de Monaco) is shut down for general public ahead of time, ports welcome a fleet of personal yachts and after race parties are on full swing every day and night. Tickets are sold for seats to experience the F1 race and also bookings are taken for tables at the after parties which, are joined by some very high network personalities and Formula One drivers. The famous formula one after parties are hosted by Amber Lounge. In short the Principality of Monaco turns all glam and glitzy and it is one hell of an experience.

  1. Experience Mote-Carlo Rolex Masters

If you are a tennis enthusiast like my self and want to watch world class players like Novak and Nadal sweat it out live on the world’s most stunning tennis court? Monte Carlo Rolex Masters was an amazing experience for me and the tickets were easily accessible to be bought online. This annual event takes place around the Grand Prix season in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, on the French borders of the Principality.

  1. Catch a performance at Opera de Monte Carlo

With a much smaller seating and intricate architectural design, the awe-inspiring opera house had left me speechless. Sharing the same entrance as Casino de Monte Carlo this theatre is located inside the palace and boasts of a private entrance for the Prince of Principality de Monaco alone. This Opera has staged some great performers and composers over the years, since it’s inauguration in 1879. The present day production house hosts up to six opera performances per season and you can catch one or more along with a bunch of fine crème de la crème crowd from all over the world.

  1. Try French cuisine on striking locations

The best French cuisine comes at a wicked price tag in a number of restaurants here and my favorites were outside, on the rugged terrain or hidden rocky beaches overlooking the clear Mediterranean. Picking on some delicious escargots and sipping on crisp pinot gris while watching bodies attempt to sail all while weekend brunching and being typically Monegasque.

Some tried and tested restaurants serving exquisite French cuisines:

  • La Maree
  • Cote Jardin – Hotel de Paris
  • Blue Bay
  • Café de Paris Monte Carlo
  • L’horizon Deck
  1. Rent a Yacht to Saint Tropez

Rent one of the many fancy Yachts from the Yacht club or the rental companies and enjoy a day in another now luxuriant fishing village located on the French Rivera. Saint Tropez can be reached on road by car in 2 hours’ time but, the best way in my experience has been by boat in about 45 minutes and is a lot more fun with a gang. The town is most visited to unwind by jet setters, hence, is also a great location to do some celebrity spotting. Stroll on the charming cobble stone alleyways, shop at some unique boutiques selling hand made goods or settle down at one of the many open roof restaurants on the cliffs to enjoy the stunning sun set splatter colours over the ocean whilst enjoying fresh oysters and sipping on some delightful cocktails.
